My Silent Wake was formed in May 2005 by Ian Arkley (formerly of Seventh Angel, Paramaecium, Ashen Mortality, The Other Window and Century Sleeper).
He was joined by 2 other ex members of Ashen Mortality, Andi Lee and Jasen Whyte (Bloodwork), and also Alan Southorn (The Other Window) Kate Hamilton joined just prior to the recording of the debut album.
In June 2005 the first recording took place at Kewsound in North Somerset. The 2 song self titled EP, comprising over 16 mins of music, was recorded in 10 hours.
In November 2005 My Silent Wake recorded their debut full length album, Shadow of Sorrow. The album was recorded in 4 and a half days; with the inclusion of the EP tracks it weighs in at over 79 minutes.
After completing work on Shadow of Sorrow, drummer Jasen White began to suffer from a painful wrist injury which prevented any live performances to promote the debut album. The time was used to write and record a follow up double album, The Anatomy of Melancholy, released in 2007.
Steve Allan, the sound engineer for all MSW recordings, joined on drums during 2007, while Jasen added vocals. Live performances began with dates in Switzerland, Norway and the UK. Two promo videos were filmed to accompany tracks from the second album. Since 2007 the band has continued to play at many European venues and festivals.
A Garland of Tears was recorded in March 2008. During 2010 a split album Black Lights and Silent Roads was released with The Drowning, closely followed by the fourth full length album IV Et Lux Perpetua. A change of drummer, for the 9 date European tour at the end of 2010, saw the addition of Tank from Seventh Angel.
