Anthony made it through the semi finals as the judges pick on the wild card show. From their is popularity grew but the nation fell in love with him when he took one of the biggest risks by performing ‘The prayer’. Idol Judge Ian Dickson described it as the best performance on Idol, whilst Mark Holden gave it a ‘grande royale touchdown’.
Anthony came runner up on Idol and after the show released ‘The prayer’. The release became the fastest and highest selling single by an Australian artist and also made it to xmas number one in 2004.
Anthony second single ‘rain’ also topped the Australian chart and to this date Anthony has had several chart topping singles and albums.
In 2005, Anthony toured Australia on his first concert tour and was supported by Tina Cousins and in 2006, Anthony supported Westlife on their tour of Australia and Diana Ross.
In 2007, Anthony travelled Australia on his ‘A new chapter’ tour.
In 2007, Anthony took on the role of a mentor on Channel Sevens reality show ‘It takes two’ where he was partnered with Radio presenter Jo Stanley. The couple came second.
In 2008. Anthony returned to ‘it takes two’ where he was partnered with Candice Falzon.
Anthony has also taken on roles in musical theatre. In September 2007, he played a supporting role in ‘dead man walking’.
In November 2007, he took on the lead role of Mark Cohen in the musical ‘rent’.
In February 2008, it was revealed that Anthony would be playing the character or Boq in ‘Wicked- the broadway musical’ which went on to received rave reviews.
