Bastian is an Amsterdam based electro-funk group, incorporating rock and psychedelica to create their signature sound. The group consists of seven longtime friends who share a profound love for music. The seventies & eighties are a major inspiration for the band. Although heavily influenced by funky ancestors like Prince, Thin Lizzy, Parliament and Cameo, Bastian succeeds to always bring a new fresh feel to their records.
Four years after their latest album, Bastian now proudly presents There’s No Such Place. The record is sturdy, containing more rock-influences than it’s predecessors, danceable and funky as hell. Keeping the songs contagiously radio friendly, without the standard ‘hit chart’ formula.
While recording There’s No Such Place band members began to call the spirit of funk legend Rick James with a Ouija board. Initially as a joke, but after the seances strange occurances took place.

Settings of instruments, amplifiers and mixers changed in inexplicable ways, and a bottle of Jameson whiskey miraculously disappeared. After August 6, the date of Rick James’ death, the strange activities stopped. Eventually this inspired the band to write the song Rick Jameson. Nobody seems to believe the story, but the band members don’t exclude that Rick James might be co-producer of the record.
