Dust to Dust is the sonic vision of singer songwriter Rob Traynor. After writing a collection of guitar heavy keyboard layered songs Traynor went about the task of putting a band together to bring his vision to life. Traynors’ circle of friends were skilled musicians, so finding the right bandmates was an easy task. So with demo complete, and band formed, DTD was born. The heavy, dark, atmospheric feel of the music together with Traynors’ melodic vocals helped to give DTD its then unique sound amongst the onslaught of trendy metal rap acts of the time. Interest came fast after shopping to managements and record labels. A deal was inked in 2001 with Sanctuary Records and the self titled debut album was released within the same year. The album was met with excellent reviews and the first single «New Low» introduced Dust to Dust to the hard music community who embraced the band with open arms. The album did well on the college and specialty radio charts and music from the first album was featured in the video game «Heavy Metal Geomatrix» for Sega, the HBO hit series «Six Feet Under,» and MTV’s «Real World.» Although things seemed to be going well, problems began to arise between Sanctuary Records and Dust to Dust. A typical scenario in the corporate world of the music biz. The push that was needed to nurture a new act like DTD was no longer there from Sanctuary, this was evident by the bands lack of touring amongst other things. Despite the lack of label support, DTD did manage to do some small runs with such acts as Type O Negative and Dave Navarro, but the «love» wasn’t there so in 2002, less than a year after the first release, Dust to Dust parted ways with Sanctuary Records. Unwilling to let Dust to Dust get swept under the corporate rug, Traynor took matters into his own hands. After a slight change in band members and a slew of new material, Traynor went about performing, recording and producing what was to be the second Dust to Dust album entitled «SICK» on his own label «Psyclone Records» in 2003. SICK was a more guitar driven album and featured guitar leads by Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey and skin bashing by original DTD drummer Steve Tobin. The album still maintained that dark atmospheric «DTD sound» despite the absence of keys. The album recieved rave reviews in publications such as Hit Parader Magazine and Metal Edge to name a few and once again with the release of the first radio single «Rot» DTD was back in the game. DTD once again joined Type O Negative for a handful of shows on their «Life Is Killing Me» tour. Music from SICK was used in the the DVD release of MTV’s «Tough Enough» as well as other commercial releases. Since the release of SICK, Rob Traynor has locked himself back in the studio and has been writing material for his new project «BLACK WATER RISING» slated to hit the New York underground sometime in late 06’ or early 07’.
