Les Respectables (literally, «The Respectables») are a French Canadian rock band founded in Montreal in the early 1990s.
Returning home after a long journey to the United States, guitarist and singer Sébastien Plante back in touch with Pascal Dufour, his partner of a decade of the Moonlight Drive. Following a meeting, they share the point with an old acquaintance, bassist Stéphane Dussault, the three friends make a wish to start a rock group. Joined by drummer Stéphane Beaudin, the four young musicians from Quebec reinterpret first success flashy seventies cult groups, plunging into the adventure rock.
1991
In the summer of 1991, borrowing from a Rolling Stones song name boosted their play, The Respectables amounts for the first time on stage. Walking their tribute in bars in the region, the four rockers seize the opportunity to present the public with their own creations, signed Sébastien Plante and Pascal Dufour. Some twenty new songs added to their repertoire and in a few months, The Respectables group itself as a fully fledged.
Over the shows and cities, the group is consolidated. Music, values and beliefs of Respectables take shape. A passion for the rock’n’roll world and a strong desire to go beyond the leading quartet to put out a directory in his own image; true getter, festive and integrity. This mixture characteristic leads training to another level.
1992-1998
In 1992, The Respectables wins first place at the Spirit’s CHOM-FM, in addition to access to the grand finale of the Yamaha Music SUNFEST in Gimili north of Winnipeg. Enjoying the attention that their door, the musicians encouragent to persevere. A first album entitled No Dogs, no band was launched in 1993. Despite an exhausting promotional tour, the success of the album remains modest. Far from being slaughtered, the group reiterates and sign in 1997, Full Regalia, a second effort more nuanced and mature the project in the big league.
1999
In 1999, $ = happiness, the first French quartet disc, hit the shelves. Upon its release, the spotlight turned to the musicians. Lovers flock to this rock to the Quebec mixed a strong touch of reggae. he first extract in the public, L’homme 7UP, propels them to the forefront — to the point where the 7UP company bought the rights for advertising purposes and disseminates the room’s two official languages country. Extracts Amalgame and decadence Holà turn heavily on the airwaves of commercial radio standards and become the turn of the decade. Then a tour of Quebec and a third extract, money is happiness, a bomb that will bring the music group glory, giving it the top of the charts for over two months.
2000-2004
In 2000, the ADISQ training grants to six appointments. In 2001, the group was awarded the Felix Group of the year. Un Disque d’Or it is even handed, a distinction which formalizes the sale of 50 000 albums. In 2002, was an elected second group of the Year Gala ADISQ and receives prestigious award from SOCAN. This is the consecration. Covered with awards, Sébastien Plante, Pascal Dufour, Stéphane Dussault and Stephane Beaudin away once the scene to tackle the production of a fourth album, Quadrosonic, produced in collaboration with none other than Gordie Johnson, former member of the Canadian band Big Sugar. While working towards his second French cake, the group is awarded for a second time the prices of SOCAN for the song We c’qu’on loves.
2006
In 2006, the four members of The Respectables blow 15 candles, 15 rock candles, and 15 candles on a solid friendship that gave birth to one of the best folk rock group that Quebec has ever known. The band tours several weeks in the bars of Quebec and plan an anniversary special.
2007
In 2007, precisely on May 23, 15 years of rock are finally immortalized with the release of the DVD, The Respectables 15th Anniversary, Live at the Bell Center. Three weeks after its launch, the DVD package is certified Gold and over 5,000 copies sold. The Repectables played on stage at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier at Place des Arts, along with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, while providing another memorable performance by being in the company of other important names in the arts scene of Quebec: Claude Dubois, Nanette Workman, Marjo …
2008
The year 2008 promised to be busy with The Respectables. A Best Of became available and the group continued to go on tour in Quebec. The group also worked on various projects that would be presented in the future.[1]
2009
Sweet Mama, the band’s new album, was produced and co-written by Gordie Johnson, Big Sugar’s former front man. It is their first English album in 10 years.[2]
Ian McLagan (The Rolling Stones, The Faces) keyboard instrumentalist also lent his talent on a few songs. Sweet Mama was recorded in part at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studios in Texas and Mixart Studios in Montreal.[3]
