As the name suggests, Melodyssey is one band that take their music very seriously indeed. Big riffs, catchy hooks and a musical sensibility far beyond their years has earned this Sunshine Coast four piece a place near the top of the Australian hard rock scene.

From their humble beginnings in 1999, Melodyssey have continued to not only challenge their fans’ expectations, but their own aswell. As school mates, Luke (drums), Clint (guitar) and Paul (bass) had that special something that won them numerous band competitions around Southeast Queensland. But, as school ended, different musical ideas started to emerge that required a different kind of singer. So Lance (vocals), Paul’s brother, was called upon to fill the gap left by the previous frontman. From that point onwards, the boys have never looked back, instead, they looked forward, and kept on looking forward, because for Melodyssey, «the past is not where new musical ideas are born».

Along with other Queensland band’s such as «The Butterfly Effect» and «Japunga», Melodyssey remained hard at work through most of 2003 to further strengthen their growing reputation as one of Australia’s newest hard rock heavyweights. Three national tours covering Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and many regional areas (one of which, as the main national support for The Butterfly Effect) is a testament to their dedication and commitment. Add to this, the recording and release of their debut long player «Distance and Regret», and you have yourself one very busy year.

Currently under the Modern Music label and distributed by Collision Records/M.R.A, the album received plenty of praise from critics( Rave magazine, Time Off, Tsunami, Bizoo, The Drum Media, Mix Down, Beat, Kerrang) and musicians alike. Firmly rooted in hard rock, the album also sees the band exploring their roots with some mind numbingly precise nu-metal outbursts, a little reggae dub and even some more chilled out acoustic expressions.

All this a far cry from the debut E.P (self-titled) released in 2002 that saw the guy’s staying very true to the nu-metal genre.

However you say it, Melodyssey are one band that isn’t going away in a hurry. 2004 will see them with new management and a tour schedule to rival some of Australia’s hardest working bands. Taking them further across our great land than ever before, to build upon their current fan base. Preparations will also begin for the new album, scheduled for release in early 2005. So keep your ears to the ground and when you hear that rumble of four seriously dedicated and talented young men, prepare yourself for the coming of the new wave for Aussie hard rock!
